APPF seeks Postgraduate Internship applications
The Australian Plant Phenomics Facility (APPF) is welcoming applications for its Postgraduate Student Internship Awards.
The Awards, which cover up to $10,000 worth of access to APPF phenomics infrastructure plus travel and accommodation support, reflect APPF’s strong interest in encouraging highly motivated and research focused students to investigate plant science.
Successful interns gain the opportunity to work alongside researchers and access state-of-the-art plant phenomics equipment and facilities.
This is a world-class opportunity for up-and-coming plant scientists to learn the practicalities of experimental design, image and data analysis in plant phenomics, while pursuing a related research initiative.
Applicants are expected to be current postgraduate students in one (or more) of the following fields:
- Agriculture
- Bioinformatics
- Biology
- Biotechnology
- Computer Science
- Genetics
- Mathematics
- Plant Physiology
- Science
- Software Engineering
- Statistics
The APPF has identified a number of priority research areas, each reflecting a global challenge and the role that advances in plant biology can play in providing a solution. These are:
- Tolerance to abiotic stress
- Improving resource use efficiency in plants
- Statistics and biometry
- Application of mechatronic engineering to plant phenotyping
- Application of image analysis techniques to understanding plant form and function.
To apply, postgraduate students need to submit a completed application outlining their academic record, research experience and research proposal. We strongly suggest that students discuss their proposal with APPF staff (refer to application form for details) prior to completing their application.
The APPF Executive Committee will consider whether the proposed research is suited to APPF’s infrastructure, how it aligns with APPF’s vision, and the collaborative nature of the project. Interviews may also be conducted.
Applications close 30 November 2022.
