On behalf of the International Association of Bryologists (IAB), the International Molecular Moss Science Society (iMOSS) and the Spanish Bryological Association (Sociedad Española de Briología, SEB), it is with great pleasure that the organizing and scientific committees invite you to participate in the 2019 joint conference that will be held on July 9-12th, 2019, at the Royal Botanical Garden (RBG), Madrid, Spain.

The Symposium will consist of a three-day scientific programme, and speakers are warmly invited to submit papers on all scientific aspects of bryology. We will address diverse topics including conservation, biogeography, ecology, genetics, phylogenetics and physiology together with newer areas like genomics, environmental DNA studies and invasive species.

Registration fees include the cost of abstract registration, attending the programme, daily lunch and coffee breaks. The fee depends on individual registration dates and organizations’ membership status. In addition to the scientific program, we will be hosting and catering to a lively social program that includes a Banquet in the Garden, and a 1- or 3-days post-symposium field excursion to bryological interesting areas around Madrid.

As a pre-conference event, on July Sun 7th and Mon 8th July 2019, the IUCN Bryophyte Specialist Group (BSG), together with Matt von Konrat (IAB Council), are organizing a 2-day training workshop on IUCN red-listing methodology, mainly targeted at BSG members, but open to other bryologists if places are available.

Spain has a large and active bryological community, and we are very pleased to be hosting this important meeting, during which we will celebrate IAB’s 50th and SEB’s 30th birthday parties!

The Royal Botanic Garden is part of the Spanish National Reseach Council (CSIC) and has a long history spanning more than 260 years. It is located in the historic center of Madrid within walking distance to the world-famous Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza, and Reina Sofia art museums. Many hotel options in the vicinity make the Garden a convenient place to host our conference. Close by there are many subway and bus stations, Madrid´s main train station Atocha Renfe, and different options for travel to and from the Barajas airport. In the meantime, keep your eyes on the web page for answers to any questions you may have. On behalf of the organising committee, we are looking forward to welcoming you to Madrid in July 2019!
