Postgraduate Internship Awards
Our Postgraduate Internship Awards (PIA) provide students with a unique opportunity to work with the APPN team as interns, to learn about cutting edge phenotyping practices while pursuing their own research with our world-class infrastructure.
This is your chance to investigate your plant science questions with the support of the highly skilled APPN team and the incredible technology and infrastructure we have available. We welcome your applications.

Priority research areas include:
- Tolerance to abiotic stress
- Improving resource use efficiency in plants
- Statistics and biometry
- Application of mechatronic engineering to plant phenotyping
- Application of image analysis techniques to understand plant form and function
- Students proposing other topics will also be considered.
What’s included?
- Up to $10,000 towards infrastructure use
- Up to $2,000 towards travel and accommodation (if required)
- A hands-on role with the APPN team – learning about experiment design, uses for advanced plant phenotyping technologies, and image analysis.
How to apply
- APPN offers 2 PIA rounds per year. Submission deadlines: 30 May & 31 October.
- Complete the Application Form. Postgraduate students currently enrolled at an Australian university are eligible to apply.

- Contact the relevant APPN Node before completing your application to develop a project plan and discuss the costs involved (Node contacts are available on our website).
