Emeritus Professor Kaye Basford FTSE AM

University of Queensland (UQ) Emeritus Professor Kaye Basford AM has built a distinguished career on her expertise in the management, analysis and interpretation of data from large-scale plant breeding experiments. 

Beginning from her appointment as a statistical consultant in the UQ Department of Agriculture, Kaye has served as a Professor of Biometry at UQ from 2000 to 2020 and was Head of the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences from 2001 to 2010). Other leadership positions at UQ included President of the Academic Board from 2012 to 2014) and Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences from 2016 to 2020.

Her experience as an independent non-executive director includes being a Member then Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for the International Rice Research Institute (2013-21) and Director then Vice-President of the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering (2014-19). She is also the current Director of the Crawford Fund (since 2014), and Director of Cape York Biofutures Enterprises (since 2021).

Kaye is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, as well as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering, Australian Institute of Agriculture, and Australian Institute of Company Directors.

In 2020, Professor Basford was made a Member of the Order of Australia.
