Our Infrastructure
APPN provides plant phenotyping infrastructure across all of mainland Australia’s major cropping zones. Our platforms and sensors are available in controlled environment facilities for experimental crops, at field sites or in remote locations (mobile phenotyping) for monitoring crop performance under real-world conditions.
In this section
Controlled environment
We provide a range of controlled environment facilities for plant phenotyping under controlled conditions including light, temperature, irrigation and more.
Fixed field sites
APPN operates field trial facilities and high-volume mobile digital phenotyping systems, to enable research and research validation in dynamic natural settings – including non-APPN sites.
Mobile phenotyping units
APPN mobile phenotyping units (MPUs) are designed to bring high-throughput digital phenotyping technology and expertise to remote sites – making our infrastructure available for crop trials almost anywhere in Australia.
Below-ground phenotyping
Phenotyping plant root structure and development is supported with a range of infrastructure including rhizoboxes, a sophisticated rhizolysimeter and X-ray CT scanning.
FAIR data
APPN data management is focussed on delivering the highest-quality research-grade results , following best-practice recommendations to ensure that all data are FAIR.
Secure / certified facilities
Many APPN facilities have been certified by Australian authorities to support research projects involving crops that must be grown under secure conditions.
